From Heartbeat to Artbeat

It was 18h:45 on Wednesday the 31st of October, and it seemed that curiosity waited for no man. One by one the attendees peered through the glass doors to catch a faint glimpse of what was expected of them. ‘Love at first sight’ held a new meaning, as everyone saw the photos for the first time.

The second year Photography students, along with their individually unique styles, accompanied by the careful selection and placement of their art pieces, contributed significantly to the theme and atmosphere of the exhibition, which made a lasting impression on their guests.

The guest speaker of the evening, Dale Yudelman, brought his own sense of humour to the table, as he enticed the attendees with his hysterical stories of mechanically engineered mosquitoes. He not only entertained the attendees and photographers with his humorous tales, but he also brought them a very powerful, inspiring message, which captivated the minds of our young photographers.

As cliché would have it, all good things had to come to an end, and the final processions of the evening took place. Of this was a kind, heart-felt thanks to Xanthe Geyer, the 2nd year Photography students’ lecturer, for her hard work and commitment to the students throughout the year. The top three photographs of the exhibition were also announced, and will go through a careful selection process to determine who will get the award for the best photograph, in second year, at the year-end prize-giving, held at the Bellville Civic Centre on the 12th of December 2012. Congratulations to Jaclyn McGregor, Kelly-Anne Joubert and Sonje Ludwick for being nominated for this award.

All-in-all, the exhibition was a great success, and a memory definitely worth capturing
