On Friday the 26th of
July 2013, Prestige Academy’s 2nd year Event Management students
hosted their first ever Chords for Cause Battle of the Bands at Bellville High
School.
The night was headlined by Skelmbosch,
a hard rock band from Stellenbosch, and was MC’d by the ever-so-rock ‘n
roll Emile van Heerden.
The competition was tough as Sunset Sweat
Shop, Feel Good Johnny, The Queenshead, Geheime Skaduwee, Last Reason,
Awewolfies, After Dark and Elevated Motion battled it out to win the awesome
prizes sponsored by Platinum Studios, Duisend Liggies Produksies and R&G
Photography.
Our Panel of judges which
consisted of Gerhard Grobler of Platinum Studios, Shaun Tait, Derick Lennox of
Duisend Liggies Produksies, Estelle Gallowitz- a director and head of marketing
at Prestige Academy, Tarryn Lamb of Blackbyrd and Eugene Joubert, decided that
Awewolfie was the band that could not be beaten, and the crowd definitely
agreed. They played a mix of old school rock n roll covers that left the
audience wanting more! After Dark, and Elevated Motion, followed closely in 2nd
and 3rd place, respectfully.
The turn-out for this event was
extremely impressive for a first-of-it’s-kind event at Prestige Academy, and
the response from the crowd to the music was truly electric. Food was devoured,
An official Jack Parrow ring was raffled off and funds were raised in aid of
the fight against women and child abuse.
Overall, this event was a huge
success and we look forward to next year’s Battle of the Bands.
