On the 16th of February, Prestige Academy hosted its own Shaveathon, to promote cancer awareness.
Students were given the opportunity to shave, straighten, or spray their hair different colours, for a mere R5. There were quite a few students who did a combination of the three, bringing in substantial amounts of money to donate to CANSA (The Cancer Association of South Africa).
Throughout the day, music played in the cafeteria area, students and lecturers sprayed, shaved and straightened their hair and everyone felt the fulfilment of giving back to their community. Even if green didn’t match what they were wearing, and it was the only colour spray we had left, students risked committing a crime of fashion, for the greater good.
We also managed to sell different colour ribbons, each colour representing a different kind of cancer. Needless to say, these sold quickly!
At the end of the day, students left the Academy, slightly less hairy, and more colourful than what they were when they had left the house that morning, but with a feeling (not common to most) of having money well-spent.
NOW YOU SEE IT…
NOW YOU DONT.
