PLATTEKLOOF
– On Sunday 7 October, the Prestige Academy 2nd year Event Management students
hosted their first annual fun run / walk that took place on the property of the
prestigious De Grendel Wine Estate in conjunction with their Season of
Sauvignon Festival 2012.
Participants
included corporate company owners, school principals, parents, school learners
as well as friends and family members.
Presenting
the first ever SEASON OF SAUVIGNON /
PRESTIGE ACADEMY FUN RUN/WALK enabled
us to raise funds to support disadvantaged students who qualify with
excellent grade 12 results, but do not have the financial support to study at a
tertiary institution. With the funds raised at this event, we were able to contribute
to our bursary scheme assisting disadvantaged students to study at a
prestigious institution such as Prestige Academy.
Nine
months of careful planning and organsing went into this event, where the
students were given the task of approaching possible sponsors, sourcing vendors
as well as marketing this fun run/walk to get race entrants for this event.
The
race consisted of two distances: a 5km and 8km option to run or walk, and all
were welcomed to take part. A kiddie’s corner was available for the young ones
to be entertained while parents participated in the walk/Fun Run. Activities included face painting, a jumping
castle, colouring books and our fairies handing out sweets.
Runners
and walkers arrived in the early hours of the morning to show their support. We
had more than 60 registrations on the morning in addition to the 510 entrants,
who had signed up prior to the event - great numbers for a first time effort
and the launch of this annual event.
Food
Vendors decorated the entertainment area and some of the Vendors were WickedWaffles, Café Pronto, The SRC Breakfast Stand, Chip Twister and Ashley’s Stall,
which supplied tasty, value for money consumables.
After
the race, the awards ceremony took place and our Master of ceremonies was the
wonderful Andre de Vos. The entertainment
was supplied by Africa Blaze, a talented group of young dancers entertaining
the audience throughout the morning.
Overall,
the event was a huge success and a lot of compliments and feedback was received. The students would like to say a big thank
you to Mrs Carse for being in charge of overseeing and co-ordinating the
overall event, Kiara Smith who was in charge of all the students, making sure
they delivered what was expected of them, and for her hard work in assisting
the entire class in delegating tasks for the event, as well as to Coca-Cola for their equipment and free Coke. We are proud to announce
that the 2nd year Event Management students made this event a huge
success, and also made it possible for the Fun Run/ walk to be an annual event
on the Prestige Academy academic calendar.
By
presenting this event, De Grendel Wine Estate and Prestige Academy made a
valuable contribution towards granting the disadvantaged students the
opportunity to study at the Academy, and therefore open doors to secure
employment and a better future for themselves.
We
are looking forward to seeing what next year’s Fun Run/ Walk has in store for
us!
