A Ball of a Time!

On the 7th of September 2012 the 1st year Event Management students at PrestigeAcademy held their annual Spring Ball at the Bellville Civic Centre, and this year’s theme was ‘Quantum Leap; Where Past, Present and Future Meet.’

A lot of effort was put into creating a vibe around the event by having teasers put up around campus to give us clues as to what this year’s theme was going to be, needless to say, these first years really had us baffled.

Finally the cat was let put of the bag and we could all plan our outfits to suit the theme!
On the evening of the dance, people started arriving at the Bellville Civic Centre, prepared for time of their lives. We were all greeted with colourful slush-puppies upon arrival, and were shown to our tables, which were beautifully decorated to suit the various eras.

When everyone was seated, the event commenced with a serving of the starter, which was a delightfully portioned hamburger and packet of crisps. We were entertained by the lovely Karla van Reene, who sang her rendition of Adele’s Someone Like You, which she definitely did justice to, and shortly after, some of the first year Event Management students performed a quirky, yet very well-choreographed dance of the decades.

The evening, M.C.’d by the lovely Danielle Neveling, SRC’s head of Social portfolio, was off to a great start!

Soon the main was served, wine was poured, a speech by Pauline Cloete (the SRC’s Chairperson) was presented, and the dance floor was opened by our ravishing Mr and Miss Prestige Academy, Simon Doveton and Megan Pritchard.

Dessert was a decadent brownie, perfectly accompanied by a brightly coloured cupcake, which everyone quickly devoured to prevent anyone from eating theirs, and the Spring Ball King and Queen was announced. A big well done to Adriano and his date! You two looked stunning!

The cash bar supplied the attendees with the necessary confidence they needed to “break it down” on the dance floor and the DJ, with his perfect balance of sokkie, house and disco music, provided the beats that enabled everyone to do just that.

A big thank you to Mr Mullins and the first year Event Management students for putting together a great event! I’m sure I can speak for everyone when I say; it was most definitely a night to remember.
